Ink Spill #26

The desire to capture every moment.

People walking around, holding their smart bricks in front of trees, rocks, sculptures, signs, buildings, people.

Click, Click, Click.

If you look at humans from afar, it would seem that our main goal is to capture and share as much snapshots of our daily lives.

Viewing the world through the lenses of a glass brick, not enjoying the trip itself, but preserving it so others can see where you’ve been or keeping it so you have something to look back to.

But were you really there? it seems that only your brick had experienced and enjoyed the whole sights you’ve visited. But for you, you were merely an observer.

You click, then upon onto the next. As if that was the only purpose of the visit.

We’ve lost the ability to just enjoy the moment, enjoying it without the urge to immortalize it by capturing every angle with every pose.

Why not just leave that moment in your mind, stored in your memory, then share the feeling and stories when you’re back. For a brick cannot capture the fresh air or the atmosphere or the feeling of being there, but your brain could.

And what’s wrong with having some of your moments die with you? why do we need to immortalize thousands upon thousands of snapshots of us, for who will view those sea of pictures? Wouldn’t it be enough that you yourself got to experience it and see it with your own eyes?

Not everything needs to be captured, just like a bird landing on your arm, resting for a bit, then flying off to the distance.
