Ink Spill #22

Programmed for improvement.

Some humans find it hard to improve, other humans find it hard to stop improving.

You see people who are physically fit who have such control over their bodies, you see people who can paint a portrait as easy as writing your name, you see people who make things look effortless.

While there are people who put a lot of effort into improvement but don’t see the same results, it feels like they’re fighting the current. the moment they let go, everything will come crashing down.

It’s easy to blame the difference on circumstances or genetics, but I think the difference is on the friction to change.

If exercising, painting, speaking is something you identify with, it’s hard to change your perception of who you are. So you act accordingly to your beliefs and not doing that makes you feel lost, as if you’re losing your identity.

The same for when you want to improve in an area you weren’t familiar with it before. It’s not part of your identity. So it’s hard to incorporate something new to your identity because we humans like consistency.

But once you pass the friction, you can literally become a new you.
